Luke Oram of Atomck presents
****STENCH NOW, STENCH LATER****
Here is what happens when a bunch of scummy punks try to play metal riffs.
Or in one case the opposite.
Amebix - Largactyl
Pffft everyone should already be pretty familiar with Amebix.
Doom - Thanatophobia
Considering how long this classic band has been going it’s a shame thier name is more recognisable as a genre of flowery shirt wearing dad rock or as a 3rd person shot em up. Should have copyrighted it I guess, but that would be playing THE MAN’S game!
Instinct of Survial - Lifeless Bodies
Basically if it’s punks struggling with Slayer riffs and the word ‘Instinct’ in the name you are moshing.
Axegrinder - One Law
This band have many axes to grind. Evidently not that fussed about spending money on production though!
Bulletridden - Do This in Remembrance of Me
There’s always been at least one great stinking old punk band in Bristol since UK82. Right now that’s this lot- don’t sleep on them!
Electro Hippies - Acid Rain
Career-blocking name aside, this fertile crusty ground is where Jeff Walker spawned his soul into physical form. Then left to join Carcass....
Caracss - Heartwork
Just ignore the solos and this is some pure stench shit yo. Carcass have all the hallmarks of stench - throaty vocals, loose drumming and genre-confused riffs. Carcass also have a massive career though so email me to say how death metal rules etc etc
Hellbastard - Deciever
Hellbastard are the band you form if you can just about play ‘reign in blood’ on guitar but your mate can’t afford good drum hardware.
Hellkrusher - Sick
They have the word ‘Hell’ in the name so going to be pretty sick I reckon. If ‘HELL INSTINCT’ doesn’t exist yet then watch this space.
Warcollapse - Crust as Fuck Existance
Prescence of ‘war’ = serious business time. In this world in which we live we must engage society and make a change.
Extreme Noise Terror - Carry on Screaming
In no way did ENT become the weak death metal crossover Dean can be heard slagging of in that interview on youtube. Just kidding babes, I love you all
Guided Cradle - The Garrote
These bros sound pretty angry about something. Probably this world in which we live.
Entombed - Wolverine Blues
LOL DEY R A DEFF METLE BAND! Not really by this point- you don’t even have to imagine away guitar solos with this track, which is a cover of a track by the more famous band Converge.
Deviated Instinct - Blandscape Slavebait
The ultimate Stenchcore band. Amazing sounding, superb riffs and vocals, precisely zero fucks given about being successful or anything. TRVE.

Sometimes musicians fall out with other musicians and, musicians being musicians, sometimes they compose a little ditty about said falling out. To use the parlance of our times (or at least my times): "They get mad beef and have to spit diss on wax." The following, then, is a selection of tunes that are either a direct message to an ex friend, ex lover, ex bandmate or at least a sly little dignified dig at one. (The name of the person/persons the song refers to is in brackets)
Joe Tex - You Keep Her (James Brown)
Eazy E - Real Muthafuckin G's (Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg)
Megadeth - Something That I'm Not (Metallica)
Sisters Of Mercy - This Corrosion (The Mission)
Ice Cube - No Vaseline (NWA)
Paul McCartney - 3 Legs (John Lennon)
John Lennon - How Do You Sleep? (Paul McCartney)
Nine Inch Nails - Piggy (Tori Amos)
Tori Amos - Precious Things (Trent Reznor)
Neil Young - Southern Man (The South)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (Neil Young)
Notorious BIG - Who Shot Ya (2Pac)

Songs aren't nearly long enough nowadays. All these nujack helicopter bands with their rotor music piss me off. Where's the cool, clean, milky underbelly of yesteryear? The following songs are appropriately long.
Spider Kitten - Sensual Predator
Boris - Flood 3
Thrones - Ted Williams / Googander
